Enrico Giaretta was born in Latina in 1970. After completing his studies at the Conservatory, he began performing around the world alongside violinist and lifelong friend Olen Cesari. At a very young age, he moved into Franco Califano’shome, where he would live for more than twenty years. That experience would play a defining role in shaping him, both as a person and as an artist.

The transition from pianist to performer developed gradually, between one journey and the next, when he and Olen Cesari decided to introduce a few original songs into what had until then been a predominantly classical and jazz repertoire. Before long, Enrico and Olen found themselves performing at some of the world’s most iconic jazz venues, from the Blue Note in Milan to Piano’s in New York.
It was Lilli Greco, who had previously discovered talents such as Paolo Conte and Francesco De Gregori, who first recognised Enrico’s potential as a singer-songwriter.

His song “Tutta la vita in un momento” caught the attention of Canadian artist Matt Dusk, who decided to record his own version under the new title “Back in town” turning it into an international hit. The song, which also became the title track of Matt Dusk’s second album, climbed the charts in several countries around the world, reaching number one in Canada, the United States, Australia and the Netherlands, and becoming the most-played song on radio in Japan.

As a result, critics and the recording industry began to take increasing interest in Enrico Giaretta’s music. After signing with Warner, he released his debut album on February 1, 2008, titled “Sulle Ali della Musica”. The project features collaborations with internationally renowned musicians, including Tony Levin on bass, Daniele Di Bonaventura on bandoneon, Olen Cesari on violin, Alessandro Canini on drums, Fabrizio Bosso and Andrea Tofanelli on trumpet, Enrico Giaretta himself on piano, and Shama Milan on guitar and double bass. Pharrell Williams also contributed to the album, recording the rhythm track for the song “Migrazioni”.

Alenia Aeronautica, a Boeing partner in the development of the 787 Dreamliner, chose Giaretta as the Italian singer and spokesperson for the aircraft’s worldwide launch presentation. Soon afterwards, the Italian Air Force commissioned him to compose the soundtrack for “Le Frecce Tricolori”, a special DVD produced to mark the 50th anniversary of the Italian National Aerobatic Team. In 2014, he finally fulfilled his dream of wearing a pilot’s uniform and began flying for K-Air aboard the Piaggio P180 Avanti II. After also flying the Embraer 190 with Alitalia and the ATR 72-500, he currently works as an airline pilot for Poste Air Cargo.

His second album, “BLU”, produced by Rita Allevato — former manager and record executive for artists including Paolo Conte, Francesco Guccini and Vinicio Capossela — received strong critical acclaim and commercial success. In 2018 Jack Savoretti invited him to join his acoustic tour as a special guest. Giaretta opened the concerts at some of Italy’s leading theatres, performing at the piano and introducing audiences to some of the most moving songs from his repertoire.

Enrico Giaretta is a remarkable artist: a singer, pianist and aviator whom music critic Cesare Romana dubbed a “Cantaviatore” — a singer-aviator — in an article titled “Il fenomeno. Da Califano in poi”. His music defies any single genre or label. His artistic talent even caught the attention of Paolo Conte to offer particularly high praise, saying:“At last, I’ve found a protégé.””.
